The purpose of the Planning Commission is to provide guidance and direction for Maple Valley's future growth through continued review and improvement to the City's comprehensive land use plan, zoning code, shoreline management, environmental protection and related land use documents.
Members of the Planning Commission are selected from individuals who have an interest in environmental affairs, planning, land use, and residential and commercial development as evidenced by training, experience or actions. An intent of the selection process shall be to evenly represent these areas of interest. Membership in the Planning Commission is limited to residents, business owners, or owners of property within the City.
There are seven members (7) of the Planning Commission. No more than one (1) member shall be represented by a business owner whose principal place of business is within the City limits, who is licensed by the State of Washington, who holds business licenses, if applicable, issued by the City, and who does not own real estate nor reside in the City. In addition, there is one (or more) Planning Commission Alternate selectees who attend Planning Commission meetings and may be selected to fill a Planning Commissioner position which becomes vacant due to reasons other than term expiration.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Tahoma School District Board Room, 25720 Maple Valley Black Diamond Road SE, Maple Valley. All meetings are open to the public.
An Annotated Agenda that shows formal action taken by the Commission at each business meeting will be posted to the website as soon as feasible following each Commission meeting. Beginning January 2010, once the formal Minutes of each meeting have been approved by the Commission, the approved Minutes will be posted and the Annotated Agenda removed.
